Elsie was a wonderful neighbor to us when we shared a duplex with her in the '60's. She kept our girls for us many times and we enjoyed many social get togethers. We were sorry that we were not able to keep up with where she lived and continue our friendship. Reading of her passing today reminded us of the many good times we shared when our children were growing up. May the Lord bless you as you call upon HIm to help you during this time of grief. He is faithful to never leave us nor forsake us.
Posted by Kelly & Edith Miller at February 25, 2009 04:35 PMElsie was a kind and gracious woman. She was my first cousin once removed. That is, she was first cousin to my late father, Andrew Hogwood, Sr. We were related through both the Hogwood and Bishop families. It should also be remembered that Elsie served as Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for Sussex County. Current Sussex Clerk Gary M. Williams has said for many years that she was a very able and accomplished person in that capacity. She later performed similar services for Chesterfield County. I will be unable to attend the visitation this evening (2/25) in Chesterfield. However, I am planning to attend the graveside service at Readville Baptist Church, where several of my Hogwood ancestors are buried, including Elsie's parents and my grandparents.

Elsie Cotten was a loving friend and employer of my mother, Olga (Ogie) Tiller, and myself for many years. She kept in contact with me even after my mother's passing. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief.
Posted by Mildred Tiller McCray at February 25, 2009 12:25 PMMay you find comfort in the memories that are yours to cherish always, and strength in the companionship of those who share your loss.... I have learned never to underestimate the healing power we all have. It is always there to be used for the highest good. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4) May it be a source of inner strength to know that there's a loving God watching over you, and that, throughout this time of need, He'll stay close by your side. I have fought the fine fight, I have run the course to the finish, I have observed the faith.-2Timothy 4:7. As for me, I will lie down that I may sleep; I shall certainly awake, for Jehovah himself keeps supporting me. -Psalms 3:5
